Despite Netanyahu’s framing of the cutting of funds, Israel’s President Isaac Herzog said on Thursday it was “like a bolt from the blue” when Trump made the announcement. Doron Spielman, a spokesperson for Netanyahu, told Fox News that: “It’s been decades now that the American people, the American governments – Democrat and Republican – have understood that military aid to Israel is also helping Israel confront enemies that are a danger to the West. “While this aid has been incredibly important, [Netanyahu] has been working with President Trump to make the correct transition out of aid towards partnership and mutual investment,” he said.
