Dhanteras marks a significant occasion in India, where families traditionally embrace the practice of buying gold. Gold prices fluctuate based on purity, with 24k gold priced at Rs 14,102 per gram and 22k gold at Rs 13,764 per gram as of November 6, 2026. This allows families to select gold purchases that align with their budgets, while prices may differ across cities due to varying demand and making charges.

Dhanteras is one of the biggest occasions for buying gold in India. For many families, it is an auspicious occasion to purchase gold jewellery, coins and bars. However, even as you race towards the shimmering jewels of a jewellery store, it is important to know the amount of gold you can purchase with your cash, online transaction or the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) payment.

The gold price varies based on its purity. The 24 karat gold is the costliest. However, it is 22k gold that is used to manufacture jewellery as 24k gold is mainly used for making coins, biscuits, bars, etc.

At the same time, jewellery prices of the same purity and weight of gold can vary from city to city since the final price depends on supply and demand, making charges, taxes and other applicable charges in a particular state.
