- 48m ago(13:20 GMT) Iran is hardening its stance and holding firm to its seven conditions Amid continuing US pressure, whether economic, through more sanctions and the continued blockade, or military, through continued threats against Iran and talk of launching military attacks on it, Iran appears to be meeting this by hardening its stance and holding more firmly to its seven conditions for opening the Strait of Hormuz, and engaging in the negotiating and diplomatic track with the United States. The deputy secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Bagheri Kani, explained why Iran is holding on to these conditions. He said that for more than a year and a half, the US broke its commitments and also wrecked the rounds of negotiations held with it. So, he says, it is Iran’s right not to settle for written commitments from the US, and it wants to see these conditions implemented on the ground. Once Iran has verified that these matters are actually being implemented, it can engage in the diplomatic track. Bagheri Kani also pointed out that the North-South corridor and the project to transfer Russian gas to Iran could thwart US attempts to exert economic pressure, especially on Iran. These projects could also boost progress and development in Iran and the region, and strengthen regional security.
