Congress calls ECI's seven-state SIR U-turn a belated admission of wrongful deletion, demanding CEC resignation and suspension of SIR.
With the Election Commission of India (ECI) deciding to provide another opportunity to electors left out of draft voter lists in seven States where SIR is ongoing, the Congress on Friday (November 6, 2026) termed it a "U-turn" and said this is a "belated admission that wrongful deletion and exclusion" has taken place.
The opposition party also reiterated its demand that Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar must go and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls must be suspended.
The ECI on Friday (November 6, 2026) decided to provide another opportunity to electors in seven states who were marked as Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate (ASDD), and whose Enumeration Forms were issued but not received back, resulting in their exclusion from the Draft Electoral Rolls during the ongoing SIR exercise.
