Why is Dentsply Sirona stock plunging today?
Investing.com -- Shares of Dentsply Sirona fell 13.0% in pre-open trading after the company released its third-quarter 2026 results on the evening of November 5, with both top- and bottom-line figures falling short of Wall Street’s expectations. Revenue came in at $836 million, declining 7.5% year-over-year and missing the consensus estimate by roughly $26 million, while adjusted earnings per share of $0.29 trailed the $0.31 analyst forecast. Adding to the disappointment, management lowered its full-year 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to a range of $1.20–$1.30 and trimmed its revenue outlook to approximately $3.5 billion, both figures below prior consensus expectations.
The earnings report triggered a fresh round of analyst price target reductions that amplified the pre-market pressure. Mizuho maintained its Neutral rating but cut its price target to $11 from $12, while Baird also held a Neutral stance and reduced its target to $9 from $10 — the latter now sitting just above the stock’s current pre-market price. These post-earnings actions followed a series of pre-earnings cuts from Leerink Partners, Piper Sandler, BMO Capital Markets, and Barrington Research over the preceding weeks, reflecting a broad consensus that the company’s Return-to-Growth Action Plan faces a longer and more difficult road than previously anticipated. Underlying segment weakness was stark, with Orthodontic and Implant Solutions revenue down 17% year-over-year and Connected Technology Solutions off 11%, while free cash flow fell to zero from $40 million in the same period a year ago.
The broader market backdrop offered little support for a recovery. The Dow Jones was under pressure while the S&P 500 was nearly flat; only the Nasdaq managed meaningful gains, meaning XRAY’s sharp decline was entirely driven by company-specific factors rather than any macro tailwind. No Federal Reserve decision occurred today — the next FOMC meeting is scheduled for December, with rates currently held at 3.75%–4.00% — so monetary policy was not a contributing factor.
