Why is ASML NV ADR stock rallying today?
Investing.com -- ASML Holding NV ADR stock rallied 5.0% in morning trading as semiconductor and AI-linked names staged a broad relief bounce, partially unwinding the prior session’s punishing selloff that had been triggered by Democratic midterm election victories. The stock climbed from a previous close of $1,356.65 to reach $1,424.95, with an intraday high of $1,447.45, as buyers returned to deeply oversold chip names across the board.
Thursday’s decline in ASML had been driven by investor fears that Democratic control of both chambers of Congress — including key data-center states — could lead to tighter regulation of AI infrastructure and potential moratoriums on new facility construction. With China already accounting for a meaningful share of ASML’s revenues and export-control friction an ongoing headwind, the stock had been particularly vulnerable to any demand-outlook deterioration. Today’s bounce reflects a reassessment of those fears as investors treat the prior session’s move as an overreaction.
The macro backdrop is providing additional lift. A U.S. jobs report showing 165,000 positions added offered reassurance about economic resilience, helping the S&P 500 gain 1.0% and the NASDAQ advance 1.7% on the session. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index is bouncing roughly 4% after its worst single-day drop since 2020, with peers including Nvidia, AMD, Micron, Lam Research, and Applied Materials all posting notable gains alongside ASML.
