Investing.com -- Lam Research (NASDAQ:LRCX) shares rebounded sharply in premarket trading Friday after the semiconductor equipment maker announced a $25 billion share repurchase authorization, offering a potential signal of corporate confidence following one of the technology sector’s worst trading sessions in years.
Lam shares had plunged 16.4% on Thursday, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) sank 12.25%, its steepest one-day decline since March 2020. The index closed at 9,011.14, as investors aggressively reduced exposure to AI-related stocks amid growing concerns about the sustainability of data-center investment.
The sell-off extended across the semiconductor industry, with Micron (NASDAQ:MU) falling 17.5%, Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) losing 17.3% and SanDisk (NASDAQ:SNDK) dropping more than 22%. Lam was among the hardest-hit equipment manufacturers.
