- 28m ago(12:15 GMT) Iran will not settle for US ‘paper commitments’, security official says Iran will not return to diplomacy with the United States on the basis of “paper commitments”, says Ali Bagheri Kani, deputy secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. “Iran must see America’s practical actions with its own eyes, and whenever these actions are observed, the ground for opening a new chapter will become possible,” Bagheri Kani told the state broadcaster IRIB, accusing Washington of having wrecked “all four rounds of negotiations” over the past year and a half by breaking its commitments. Bagheri Kani said the main purpose of security council chief Mohsen Rezaei’s three-hour meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday was to deliver a message from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. He said the message set out Iran’s priorities for bilateral cooperation so that Moscow had a clearer picture of ties under Khamenei’s leadership.
- 43m ago(12:00 GMT) British Airways parent says profit drops over fuel costs, cancellations from Middle East conflict IAG, the owner of British Airways and Iberia, has said that its net profit dropped more than 12 percent in the third quarter on soaring fuel costs and flight disruptions caused by the conflict in the Middle East. Profit after tax fell to 1.23bn euros ($1.37bn) in the July-September period compared with 1.40bn euros for the third quarter of 2025, IAG said in a statement. “Strong pricing was offset by lower capacity, the impact of one-off disruption events and in particular by higher jet fuel prices,” IAG said, with its fuel costs up more than 30 percent in the quarter. The group said its overall flight capacity had been hit “by cancellations due to the conflict in the Middle East, together with aircraft availability linked to engine issues and disruption related to air traffic control disruption”.
