Encompass Health closes Florida rehab hospital after flood damage
Encompass Health (EHC) announced the indefinite closure of Sea Pines Rehabilitation Hospital in Melbourne, Florida, following flooding caused by torrential rains on Nov. 1-2, 2026.
Sea Pines is a 90-bed hospital operated through a joint venture between Encompass Health and Holmes Regional Medical Center, a subsidiary of Health First. All patients were evacuated and either transferred to other medical facilities or discharged home. All staff were accounted for.
The joint venture said it is evaluating options to refurbish or replace the hospital, with reopening described as a priority. Discussions with the joint venture partner are ongoing.
