Injured Koo Ja-wooks Triple Lifts Samsung Lions to Series Lead Captains grit and Lee Seung-yuops praise highlight leadership in Korean Series Game 3 victory
[OSEN=Daegu, Son Chan-ik Reporter] Though his body was not in perfect condition, his will to win was stronger than anyone’s. Even with a left hamstring injury making normal base-running difficult, he ran with all his might. Koo Ja-wook, the ‘captain’ of the Samsung Lions in professional baseball, demonstrated the dignity of a leader through actions, not words.
On November 6, during Game 3 of the Korean Series against the KT Wiz at Daegu Samsung Lions Park, Koo Ja-wook hit a deep fly ball over the right fielder’s head with two outs, runners on first and third in the bottom of the second inning, when Samsung led 2-1. He did not miss the pitch he was waiting for on a 2-0 count.
As the ball soared deep into the outfield, Koo Ja-wook sprinted without hesitation. Though he could not reach his usual speed due to the injury, he poured every ounce of strength into advancing one more step. Two runners crossed home plate, and Koo Ja-wook settled into third base before raising both arms and roaring. Daegu Samsung Lions Park erupted in cheers.
