Paul Mackenzie, the leader of a Kenyan doomsday cult, has been sentenced to life in prison for his role in the massacre of 191 people, of whom all but one were children. Mackenzie, leader of the Good News International Church, was arrested in 2023 after some 400 bodies were exhumed from shallow graves in Shakahola forest. Followers of the organization were encouraged into extreme fasting as part of their religious obligation. Mackenzie has avoided being given the death penalty by the Kenyan court.
