- 13m ago(13:00 GMT) Yemeni government says it has recaptured several locations in Taiz Yemeni government forces, backed by Saudi Arabia, have announced the recapture of several locations in Taiz province. Government forces said they had recaptured the villages of al-Nidani and al-Sarari, large parts of Sanamat district, and the Rabat al-Qarn area. They added that 37 Houthi fighters had been killed or wounded in the fighting. Taiz is strategically important because of its proximity to the Bab al-Mandeb strait, a vital waterway through which an average of 4.2 million barrels of crude oil passed each day during the first half of 2025. The Houthis, backed by Iran, have not yet responded to the government’s announcement.
- 28m ago(12:45 GMT) Israeli government feels its ‘time might be running out’ It looks like Gadi Eisenkot, who heads the Zionist opposition to Benjamin Netanyahu, is the most likely candidate to be asked to form a government. That has sent waves of panic across the constituency of Netanyahu and his coalition. Those settlers we see in the occupied West Bank, harassing Palestinians, attacking and setting property on fire and taking over land, that’s the constituency of Netanyahu and his coalition. They believe that their time might be running out. In the meantime, the consultations in the change bloc continue. It’s going to be difficult for that government to be formed because Eisenkot does not want to count on the support of this historic 19-seat bloc of Palestinian-Israelis. He wants a government of Zionist parties and that will be difficult because it will require bringing in people from Netanyahu’s bloc. Those parties could include the ultra-Orthodox parties.
