Star Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Malachi Toney is reportedly set to undergo ankle surgery that could sideline him for UM’s game vs. Notre Dame.
The top-ranked Miami Hurricanes look like they’ll be without their most dynamic player in their most highly anticipated game of the regular season and beyond.
Miami star wide receiver Malachi Toney is expected to undergo ankle surgery following an injury sustained in practice on Wednesday, according to a report from CBS Sports which noted the injury is not expected to be season-ending. ESPN first reported the injury, adding that the surgery is for a high-ankle sprain and will likely keep him out at least four weeks, starting with Saturday’s marquee game at No. 11 Notre Dame. That points to Toney missing the remainder of the regular season but potentially being available for the College Football Playoff should the Hurricanes qualify.
“Malachi Toney sustained an injury during Wednesday’s practice and is currently undergoing further evaluation by the team’s medical staff,” the school said in a statement Wednesday afternoon. “We will share additional updates as appropriate.”
