The 2027 Met Gala will examine the transformation of everyday clothes into high fashion after its planned celebration of controversial designer John Galliano was scrapped.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced a new Met Gala theme, following the implosion of its previously announced celebration, of the renowned and controversial couturier John Galliano. Next May’s gala will have a theme of “extraORDINARY: Fashion and the Poetics of the Everyday” to open an exhibit that looks at both the transformation of everyday civilian clothes into high fashion and the use of widely available but nontraditional materials — paper, aluminum, plastic, etc. — in fashion.
