Bring the Heat to Mac and Cheese With a Scotch Bonnet Sauce
NBC News ·
Bring this spiced-up mac and cheese to your next family cookout, and we promise your friends and family will be coming back for seconds (or thirds).
Chef notes
My love affair with mac and cheese started at a young age, with the classic version from a box. Since then, I've had the Southern version, Trini mac pie, lobster mac and cheese, truffle mac and cheese, and too many others to count. You probably have your own go-to mac and cheese recipe, but this version is spiced up and full of flavor. Bring it to your next family cookout, and I promise your friends and family will be coming back for seconds (or thirds).
Swap option: For a milder hot sauce, remove the seeds from the Scotch bonnet peppers before adding them to the recipe. If you can't find Scotch bonnet peppers, substitute habanero peppers in this recipe.
