The politically savvy comic proposed one simple way for Democrats to free the party from what “got us into this mess” during his Wednesday podcast.
Jon Stewart told Democrats their massive midterm wins won’t mean a thing if they don’t tear down the “bullshit system” that rules the party and say goodbye to those at the top of it.
Answering a listener question about if Senator Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) should step aside during Thursday’s episode of “The Weekly Show,” the politically savvy comic said Democrats need to make massive structural changes if they actually want to “meet the moment” and get things done.
“That’s job one of this opportunity. Job one of this opportunity is to tear down the obstacles and old way of thinking that got us into this mess,” Stewart said. “Someone has to meet this moment and they have got to show — and this moment is not, ‘Oh, we get to impeach everybody.’ Like, fuck that. Like, you have an opportunity to actually govern. Do it. Take it.”
