A senior Iranian official said the Republican losses in the midterms were caused by Trump’s “warmongering against Iran.”
Iran has mocked President Donald Trump over Republican midterm losses by linking them to the Iran war—as conflict observers warn there is fresh danger of armed escalation in the region.
"The scandal that happened to Trump's party in the U.S. elections was caused by the heavy defeat of the United States in warmongering against Iran," said Hamidreza Moghaddamfar, adviser to the Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Iran's blocking of the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation to joint U.S.-Israeli strikes launched on February 28 pushed up fuel prices in the U.S. and globally. Trump told Fox News the midterm results were partly due to the conflict with Iran and the resulting rise in oil prices. In a separate interview with The Wall Street Journal, he said he did not regret launching the joint U.S.-Israeli attack, adding: "I did the right thing. I would have done it again."
