Won Yu-min Elected Asia Paralympic Committee Chairperson First South Korean to hold IPC and APC roles; Minister Chae pledges support

[Sports Chosun Jeon Young-ji Reporter] "Congratulations on your election, Won Yu-min, Asia Paralympic Committee (APC) Athletes' Council Chairperson."

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Chae Hwi-young sent a congratulatory message on the 6th celebrating the election of 'Para national team representative' Won Yu-min (38) as the Asia Paralympic Committee (APC) Athletes' Council Chairperson. Won was elected as an International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletes' Council member at the 2024 Paris Paralympics and became vice chairperson of the IPC Athletes' Council in April last year. She was then elected as an APC Athletes' Council member with the highest votes at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games last month.

Following her role as IPC Athletes' Council vice chairperson, Won—now serving concurrently as an APC Executive Committee member—received a congratulatory message from Minister Chae, who stated, "This is especially meaningful as it allows South Korea’s voice to be heard more loudly in major decision-making processes for Para sports." He added, "We expect you to contribute to enhancing the rights of Asian Para athletes, advancing Asian Para sports, and elevating South Korea’s status in the international sports community based on your rich international experience and exceptional leadership." Minister Chae further promised, "The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will actively support your activities and work together to create a sports environment where athletes are respected and can fully demonstrate their capabilities."
