Electric and gas utility Fortis reports Q3 profit up, raises quarterly dividend

Electric and gas utility Fortis Inc. raised its quarterly dividend as it reported its third-quarter profit rose compared with a year ago.

ST. JOHN’S — Electric and gas utility Fortis Inc. raised its quarterly dividend as it reported its third-quarter profit rose compared with a year ago.

The company says it will now pay a quarterly dividend of 66.5 cents per share, up from 64 cents.

The increased payment to shareholders came as Fortis reported its third-quarter profit amounted to $474 million or 92 cents per share, up from a profit of $409 million or 81 cents per share a year earlier.
