The first day of winter, known as Ipdong on the 7th, is expected to bring early winter cold across the country. Seoul is forecast to experience its first subzero Ipdong in 20 years since 2006.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 6th, a cold northwest wind of -30°C is moving southward, causing temperatures to drop sharply nationwide over the weekend (7th–8th).
The “icy air” caused temperatures to fall by 5–8°C for lows and 3–10°C for highs on the 6th compared to the previous day (5th), creating a chilly atmosphere. On the 7th, morning temperatures are expected to drop another 5–8°C, with some regions seeing a decline of over 10°C in two days.
