Celebrate Embarcadero Park by bringing back its trees
San Francisco Chronicle · Chronicle readers ·
Chronicle readers comment on the Embarcadero Park pavilion design, patients waiting for ER care, Scott Wiener doing his job and the Valkyries special section.
Regarding “Designs for the new Embarcadero pavilion look like a bus shelter at an airport. We can do better” (Opinion, SFChronicle.com, Oct. 30): I live in the neighborhood and walk through Embarcadero Park every day with my dog, and I agree with Allison Arieff’s column.
What bothers me more than the pavilion is the trees that have been cut down. The park is being turned into a plaza. That area is already too open and sunny. The shade was the reason people used it. I love walking through and feeling the cool that a park brings to the urban landscape at dusk. Even if they replant, new trees take years to grow back.
It’s also personal for me. I used to walk my two dogs there daily. My last memories of Porter are in that park, from the Sunday before he died. I still have my other dog, and we still go every day, but it’s a different place now.
