South Korea Condemns Norths DMZ Landmine Provocation Government Sends Letter to UN Security Council President After Month-Long Delay
The government announced on the 22nd that it had decided to send a letter to the United Nations Security Council president informing and condemning North Korea’s unauthorized landmine planting in the southern section of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). This comes approximately one month after three military personnel were injured in a landmine explosion caused by North Korea’s unauthorized planting on September 21.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Park Doo-soon stated during a regular briefing that the government would send the letter, under the name of Ambassador to the UN Cha Ji-hoon, to the Security Council president by October 22, New York time.
Park explained that the letter would emphasize, “This explosion was caused by landmines planted by North Korean forces, constituting a clear violation of the Armistice Agreement. It demands North Korea’s apology and responsible measures while urging dialogue to prevent escalation and restore trust.”
