Malachi Toney’s college football introduction came in a Miami Hurricanes win over Notre Dame. He’s ready for his second game against the Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman, just like most everyone in the college football world — and, to some extent, even the Miami Hurricanes — didn’t truly know what to expect from wide receiver Malachi Toney when the Fighting Irish played the Hurricanes to open the 2025 season.

Freeman knew the basics: Toney was a highly touted high school player who had reclassified to enroll in college a year early.

“And then you see him live in person,” Freeman said.
