Another night with five Bruins scoring, and other observation from a rout of the Penguins

With his first-period goal, Mark Kastelic became the club’s 12th scorer to pot at least three goals this season.

PITTSBURGH — The Bruins harvested a bushel full of goals, two off Pavel Zacha’s stick, another solid performance by their surprisingly deep-pocketed offense that resulted in a 6-2 thumping of the stumbling Penguins Thursday night at PPG Paints Arena.

Zacha was joined in the goal-scoring column by Mark Kastelic, Elias Lindholm, Morgan Geekie (third goal in as many games) and Fraser Minten. Backup tender Michael DiPietro backed it all with 16 saves. It was the seventh time, in only 17 games this season, the Black and Gold have had five different goal scorers.

For a club that many projected would have to fight for a playoff spot with a popgun offense this season, the Bruins are scoring with the game’s elite. They have 64 goals this season, an output trailing only the Oilers (71), Hurricanes (69), and Avalanche (68).
