A recent illness doesn't necessarily put pet insurance out of reach, but it can change what a policy covers.

Pet insurance can be easy to put off when your pet is healthy, particularly when many people's finances are being stretched by things like high inflation and rising prices, as they are in today's economic landscape. The monthly premium may feel like one more expense for coverage that might not be needed anytime soon. But that calculation can change quickly after an unexpected trip to the veterinarian — especially when the visit ends with a diagnosis and a sizable bill.
