The stadium could end up as the centrepiece of its country's first ever Summer Olympic Games
If India proves successful in its bid to hold the 2036 Olympic Games, one of the world's largest sporting arenas could take centre-stage. However, it might not pay witness to any sport.
India is one of seven bidders for the 2036 games, along with Qatar, South Africa, South Korea, Germany, Hungary and Turkey. Its bid names Ahmedabad - which will already host the 2030 Commonwealth Games - as the potential host city.
