Why is Space Exploration Technologies stock rallying today?
Investing.com -- Space Exploration Technologies Corp stock is rallying 6.3% in morning trading, clawing back a significant portion of the losses accumulated over the prior two sessions, when the stock shed roughly 12.5% of its market value in the wake of Democratic victories in the 2026 midterm elections. Investors had sold aggressively on concerns that a Democrat-controlled Congress could scrutinize SpaceX’s NASA and Department of Defense contracts, complicate the proposed Tesla-SpaceX merger, and impose tighter oversight on the company’s expanding AI data center footprint in Texas.
Adding a company-specific positive to the rebound, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration proposed streamlining regulations for commercial space launches and re-entries, with plans to overhaul its full licensing framework in 2027. The agency also announced it is expanding its commercial space workforce and hiring aerospace engineers specifically to accelerate launch application turnarounds — a meaningful operational benefit for SpaceX, which dominates U.S. commercial launch activity and conducts missions at a far higher cadence than any rival.
On the technical and institutional front, prominent investment research firm Bespoke Investment Group had flagged SPCX as one of a handful of mega-cap stocks in "extreme oversold" territory following the post-election rout, and ARK Invest disclosed a purchase of approximately $47.4 million worth of SPCX shares earlier in the week, lending institutional credibility to the bounce thesis. The broader market is providing a constructive backdrop, with the NASDAQ up 1.6% and the S&P 500 up 1.0%, supported in part by the October jobs report released today.
