Transamerica Pyramid holiday market coming to San Francisco

San Francisco Chronicle · Laura Waxmann ·

The Transamerica Pyramid is trying something new: A holiday market for San Francisco

The redwood grove at the foot of San Francisco’s Transamerica Pyramid is about to fill with vendor chalets and glow with holiday lights and the incandescence of movie nights — all in the latest bid to continue the landmark’s transformation from an aging office tower to a public gathering place as its new owner reshapes the complex.

The organizers are planning 12 nights of holiday programming, including live music, movies, Santa appearances, and activities for families including seasonal food and drinks. The market will also feature an alpine-inspired cocktail lounge.

The inaugural holiday market is being organized by the Pyramid’s owner, Yoda PLC, and RASA World, the experiential tech company behind the recent, sold-out Pier Play festival series at Pier 70. It opens Dec. 10 with a tree lighting ceremony and will run Thursdays through Sunday for the rest of that month.
