Maternity care in New Zealand is widely regarded as unique. The public system gives women fully funded healthcare throughout the antenatal period and up to six weeks postpartum.

New mothers are typically entitled to a funded 48-hour stay in a postnatal facility, while new legislationwill soon allow up to three days.
