Chery will recall 53,882 vehicles starting later this month over a manufacturing defect in the rear axle, China's market regulator said on Friday.
The recall, covering Tiggo 5x and Omoda models produced between June 2022 and December 2023, stems from a rear-axle welding defect that could, in extreme cases, lead to loss of wheel control and increase crash risks, according to a company filing with the market regulator.
Chery's Chair Yin Tongyue has publicly apologised over quality issues following a rear axle detachment involving its Omoda model in Malaysia. (Reuters-Yonhap)
