Thomas Haugh’s double-double led the top-ranked Florida Gators season-opening win over the No. 14 Miami Hurricanes at Tampa’s Benchmark International Arena.
Thomas Haugh put up a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double to lead the top-ranked Florida Gators to a 77-67 win over the No. 14 Miami Hurricanes on Monday at Tampa’s Benchmark International Arena.
The Hurricanes, starting their second season under coach Jai Lucas, showed at times that they were able to compete with a veteran Florida team that returns so many key pieces from its 2025 national championship run (headlined by the frontcourt trio of Haugh, Rueben Chinyelu and Alex Condon) but also showed where they had plenty of room still to grow.
The Gators (1-0) led 46-36 at halftime, fueled in large part by an extended run midway through the period. Neither team led by more than three points through the opening eight-and-a-half minutes before UF outscored Miami (0-1) 26-10 to go from down 17-15 to up 41-27 with 4:14 left in the period. Florida scored 15 points off six Miami turnovers.
