French authorities say a cyberattack on several blood banks tried to raise temperatures to dangerous levels but was stopped before causing damage. The attack happened Monday at three cold-storage sites for plasma. Monitoring systems detected the issue, allowing staff to act quickly. No blood products or samples were compromised. This incident follows similar attacks on supermarkets in Europe, where fridges and freezers were remotely taken over, spoiling food worth millions. The French Blood Establishment says blood collection and distribution remain uninterrupted. France’s national cybersecurity agency and the Health Ministry are investigating.

PARIS (AP) — A cyberattack on several blood banks tried to raise temperatures to extremely high levels but was thwarted before it could do any damage to blood products or samples, French authorities said.

The incident comes after supermarkets in a number of European countries reported this week that their fridges and freezers warmed up after they were remotely taken over, resulting in tons of spoiled food at a total cost of millions of dollars (euros).
