Why do friends invite me and my ex to the same parties?

Why do they have to invite us both?
Q. I was partners with my ex for eight years, after which we tried to remain friends for a few years. That lasted until we got to a final mind-exploding incident that caused me to pull the plug … forever.
After the breakup, she tried to patch things up, but I’ve told her — and have been steadfast — that I don’t want to see or communicate with her anymore.
It’s now a few years since I cut the cord, and she persists in emailing me from time to time. I’ve taken to just not responding.
