PPP Questions Lee Yong-cheol Nomination: Seongnam Line, Daejang-dong Figure — Designed to Dismiss the Indictment Lee Yong-cheols Daejang-dong ties seen as bid to dismiss President Lees indictment

The People Power Party criticized on the 6th President Lee Jae Myung’s nomination of Lee Yong-cheol, Administrator of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration and classified as part of the “Seongnam line,” as the new justice minister nominee, calling it “an attempt to secure the dismissal of the president’s indictment” and stating, “They have appointed a figure implicated in the Daejang-dong scandal as minister.”

People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok said that day, “Lee Yong-cheol is the ‘hidden architect’ of the Daejang-dong scandal. He will be tasked with the ‘hidden design’ of dismissing the indictment,” adding, “President Lee posted that he must overcome both ‘rally politics relying on agitation and slogans’ and ‘order politics relying on interests and regional ties,’ but isn’t Lee Yong-cheol the ultimate combination of ‘interests in dismissing the indictment’ and ‘regional ties to the Seongnam line’?” Jang also referred to the Democratic Party of Korea’s push to forcefully pass the “special counsel bill to investigate alleged fabricated indictments” as the “completion of the ‘Lee Jae Myung prison break project.’”

Floor Leader Jeong Jeom-sig stated, “Lee Yong-cheol served as a member of Lee Jae Myung’s transition committee when Lee was mayor of Seongnam and later as CEO of the Seongnam Industry Promotion Foundation during Lee’s administration,” adding, “He is also suspected of involvement in the Daejang-dong corruption scandal. In 2010, when Yoo Dong-gyu, a key figure in the Daejang-dong case, was appointed as planning director of the Seongnam City Facilities Management Corporation, Lee participated in the executive recommendation committee and gave Yoo a high evaluation score.”
