The 13th Organization of Turkic States summit concluded with Kazakhstan calling for Russia to be admitted as observer state to regional bloc
The 13th leaders’ summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) concluded Friday in Ankara, with Kazakhstan calling for Russia to be admitted as an observer state to the regional bloc.
“We must take the necessary measures to elevate its prestige by ensuring that Russia also joins as an observer. Russia, as a major state, has had close ties with the Turkic world since ancient times,” Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said during his address to fellow OTS leaders.
Since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Kazakhstan has maintained a balanced and cautious posture toward Moscow, avoiding confrontation due to deep political, economic, and geographic ties while repeatedly urging a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
