Ukraine struck a sixth Russian oil refinery in a week, escalating a renewed campaign against the energy infrastructure that helps finance the Kremlin’s war.
Ukrainian military forces carried out an overnight strike on Afipsky, a medium-sized crude-processing plant in southern Russia, according to a person familiar with the situation, who asked not to be identified discussing non-public information. It also emerged on Friday that Yanos, a large refinery that supplies Moscow, had to halt operations after being hit three days ago.
Kyiv resumed its campaign against Russia’s oil industry in late October after an almost two-week pause that coincided with calls for calm from US President Donald Trump as he sought to bring down fuel prices before the midterm elections. The renewed attacks come ahead of US-mediated talks between Russia and Ukraine that are scheduled for Nov. 10-11 in Abu Dhabi.
