Investing.com -- Grocery basket prices fell at six of seven major retailers in the two weeks ending November 2, according to a Jefferies analysis of 19 commonly purchased food products across seven stores.
The average basket price dropped to approximately $82.40, its lowest level since early September. Stop & Shop led the declines, while Kroger (NYSE:KR) fell for a second consecutive period to its lowest point since early June.
Giant and Albertsons (NYSE:ACI) remained the most expensive retailers at around $93.50, though both gave back recent gains. Target (NYSE:TGT) and Food Lion decreased modestly. Walmart (NYSE:WMT) was the only retailer to increase prices for a third straight period, but remained the cheapest option. The price gap between the highest and lowest-priced retailers narrowed to approximately $18.40 from $20.
