Jeff Bezos’ AI start-up Prometheus is closing in on a huge San Francisco lease in a former Gap office

At the depths of San Francisco’s office market downturn, the Sobrato Organization paid more than $80 million for Gap’s one-time corporate office at the waterfront, betting it could be remade for a new generation of tech tenants. Now, the refreshed property at One Harrison is said to be landing Prometheus, Jeff Bezos’s AI start-up — a deal that could validate the risky gamble and highlight how the city’s AI boom is changing what companies want from office space.

Multiple real estate insiders have confirmed to the Chronicle that Prometheus has leased all six floors of the 180,000-square-foot building, located near Google’s offices at the Embarcadero. The heavily funded start-up already leases a smaller, 30,000-square-foot office inside the nearby 22-story 101 Mission St. tower, but has been quietly on the hunt for new office space in recent months.

Representatives of the start-up have not responded to inquiries on the potential One Harrison lease, or how the space would be used. What is clear is that the building would give Prometheus a much larger San Francisco base and deliver the single headquarters tenant that Sobrato told the Chronicle it hoped to attract to One Harrison.
