First pill version of GLP-1 weight-loss drugs in Australia to cost about the same as injections

Pricing indications from drugmaker Novo Nordisk suggest its weight loss pill will not be significantly cheaper than the monthly injections.

The first pill version of GLP-1 weight-loss drugs to be sold in Australia will be sold at a similar price as the monthly jabs currently available, according to pricing indications sent to doctors and pharmacists this week that dash hopes they will be significantly cheaper.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration approved Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy pill this week, which is expected to go on sale in Australia by the end of the year and significantly increase the number of Australians taking the blockbuster medicines that suppress appetite.
