Bush Airport considers new amenities for cellphone lot

Houston Chronicle · Octavia Johnson ·

Bush Airport is considering new amenities for drivers waiting to pick up passengers, including EV chargers and restaurants.

Drivers could have more amenities while waiting to pick up passengers at George Bush Intercontinental Airport as airport officials consider redeveloping the cellphone waiting area.

Jim Szczesniak, aviation director of the Houston Airport System, said at the 2026 State of the Airports event Wednesday that the proposed development would include a gas station, electric vehicle charging stations, a convenience store, restrooms and quick-service restaurants along John F. Kennedy Boulevard. More project details are expected to come next year.

Bush Airport has three cellphone lots, including one along John F. Kennedy Boulevard. Drivers picking up passengers must remain in their vehicles while waiting. The lots are free and open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
