Americans pay a pittance. Israel pays with its strategic independence. It's time to end the arrangement

As the polls opened on November 3, 2026, President Donald Trump phoned in to Fox & Friends with a surprise: “Bibi Netanyahu and I have made a deal that we give Israel $4 billion a year, and we made a deal months ago that we’re stopping… We’ve already agreed that by the end of this year we won’t be paying Israel.” The idea, he said, came from Netanyahu himself.

By midnight the Democrats controlled Congress. Plenty of issues carried them there, but one slogan travelled further than most: “Stop sending our tax dollars to Israel.” Very few of the people chanting it ever asked where those dollars actually go.
