Daredevil abseilers scale London Eye to install 12,000 lights for Christmas
The Independent ·
A team of specialist abseilers scaled the London Eye to check thousands of new lights, ensuring the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel is prepared for Christmas. The capital's iconic attraction has had a major festive makeover involving 12,288 newly fitted LEDs, a task requiring 1,000 hours of effort from expert technicians. Working at heights of up to 135 metres above the Thames, specialist crews transformed the structure ahead of its Christmas illumination display. Starting 14 November, the landmark will light up the skyline nightly from dusk, with a brief light show every 15 minutes throughout the evening.
