3 charged in scheme to use AI to mimic CEOs to steal $129 million

Three people have been charged in a scheme to use artificial intelligence to impersonate corporate executives and attorneys to steal about $129 million. Prosecutors say Thursday that the three people have been indicted on charges of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. The indictment filed in a New York court shows that Jacob Soall, Sharon Hazan and Guy Sheetrit targeted thousands of companies. Court documents say their victims included hospital systems in Missouri and California, a Rhode Island bank and a financial technology company in the United Kingdom. Lawyers for Soall and Sheetrit did not immediately respond to a request for comment. It was not clear whether Hazan had an attorney.
