America's midterm election has not just been about Donald Trump's party facing a resounding rejection. It's also a big punch in the gut to one of his pet agendas - AI. America’s AI boom comes with a big promise: more investment, more jobs and faster economic growth. But in the communities being asked to host the data centres powering that boom, some residents have a more immediate question: what will it mean for our electricity bills, our water supply and the places we live? Across the US, more than 40 towns and counties considered data-centre-related ballot measures, with at least 10 reportedly approving restrictions or bans.
