New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul have pledged more support for Puerto Rico as it remains mired in multiple crises. They asserted during a trip to the island that the sweeping Democratic win after the U.S. midterm elections will be a boon for the U.S. territory. Both met with nonprofits in Puerto Rico on Friday as officials announced a $280,000 partnership to help the island confront emergencies. The partnership between the Hispanic Federation and the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York comes as Puerto Rico struggles with chronic power outages and intermittent water shortages.
