Democrats won sizable House and Senate majorities in the 2026 midterm elections, but the exact margins are unclear because some races haven't been projected yet. Here's where the results stand.
Democrats are poised to have a strong majority in the upcoming Congress. The final numbers are still being determined. Here's where things stand in the races that are waiting to be called by the AP.
There are just four races for U.S. Senate and governor that The Associated Press has not yet called. Contests in Alaska, Kansas and Mississippi have narrow margins with votes still outstanding even as the scale of Democrats’ midterm victory across the country comes into focus, ensuring the party will control the House and the Senate next year. In the House, 48 races in which party control of the seat is at stake have yet to be called. The AP does not make projections and will declare a winner only when it’s determined there is no scenario that would allow the trailing candidate to close the gap.
With many seats still to come in, the Democrats have taken control of the Senate, House and several key governorships. Find live updating results in full here
